International Overdose Awareness Day emphasizes the tragic number of people we are losing each year to overdose. Every August, NOMA volunteers create visual displays by placing a purple flag to represent every Alabamian lost to overdose.
This year, we partnered with R.O.S.S. and Partnership for a Drug Free Community to coordinate an overdose awareness campaign which resulted in Redstone Federal Credit Union lighting their main building near downtown Huntsville and several ATMs in purple. Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle also proclaimed September as National Recovery Month in Huntsville.

Expanded Family Program
We moved into a larger office space to accommodate a growing staff, meetings with stakeholders and a more centrally located space for Family Support Group meetings. Since moving, our Family Support Group has consistently grown and has become a vital part of family healing in our community. Our weekly Family Support Group held 48 meetings in the past 12 months with an attendance of 530.
In addition, we expanded further into our new office space and can now provide up to three private, peer-supported meeting areas for individuals and families as we introduced our comprehensive, solution-focused family program.

For the eighth year, NOMA is sponsoring the Angel Tree, a flagship tree on Tinsel Trail in Downtown Huntsville. The Angel Tree is adorned by photos of loved ones lost as a result of addiction or accidental overdose. It gives families an opportunity to memorialize their loved one and send a message to visitors of the Tinsel Trail that addiction knows no boundaries. We expect to surpass the 110+ photos submitted last year. NOMA will also host its annual Candlelight Memorial Service for families to gather at the tree.
