Join our Family Support Group as we discuss important strategies for families who have a loved one struggling with a substance use disorder.  We know first-hand that addiction and/or mental illness impacts the entire family. Connection with others who have lived similar experiences helps us learn from one another and support each other through difficult times.

This Family Support Group closely follows the "Invitation to Change" approach which was developed by the
Center for Motivation and Change (CMC), a national organization made up of researchers and clinicians who use evidence-based strategies to help families better interact with their loved one who is struggling. Not One More Alabama (NOMA) strongly supports the CMC approach of: SCIENCE + KINDNESS = CHANGE.

All participants of NOMA's Family Support Group receive a copy of the 20 Minute Guide which was created by the CMC for parents, partners, friends and family members who want to help a loved one change their relationship with substances.

This program is for adults age 18 or older. No childcare is provided. No RSVP necessary. You are welcome to bring a drink or snack.

What sets our Family Support Group apart from others?

Just as we believe there are many different pathways to recovery, we believe there are many good options for family support. Finding the one that meets your needs is important.

Our Family Support Group is a learning group within a supportive environment. It is not a therapy group or a peer-run support group like 12-step groups and SMART Recovery. We don't dive into personal histories and engage in individual problem solving.

Our Family Support Group is topic-driven with discussions that introduce strategies, skills and new perspectives. Participants of our support group have made great strides in communicating with loved-ones who struggle with substance use disorder in the past or present. Most importantly, they are practicing self-care.
